Hello Jonathan,
My 8 year old had his first game yesterday in BOX, he has played out all season.(Our regular goalie has moved) With very little debate due to his skills our young guy was put in net. After a week of firing shots at him and nothing would shake him up. Now this game yesterday was against the number 1 team(only due to a very good little guy who is a hotshot/goal scorer) and the final outcome was a 2-1 loss. Very great game he played but, became so upset he doesn't want to play nets now due to he thinks he let his team down and the coaches. We as parents have praised him up and down and he didn't seem to understand the amount of saves and how well he outperformed our regular goalie.
After watching your video on the save percentage we will now use this method to prove how well he has performed. After talking with him we have finally convinced him to go back in today for the playoffs. Everyone is behind him parents, coaches, teammates so the praise is there, I think the confidence and butterflies from playing the first game in nets and loving it is alot of pressure. The fun factor and fair play is what we try to encourage at this young age but, he always wants to win (as per every kid).
I just wanted to say thank you for your site and some help in such a quick time. I am speechless but, if you have some words of encouragement or an example of this situation it might shed some light into his head.
Thank you very much, keep up the great site.
